A three-bedroom, two-bathroom penthouse above the kite beach at La Ventana in Baja California Sur, sleeping up to eight and running on off-grid energy rather than the town supply. The owner has not published a bed layout per room, and it is available on request. The minimum stay is two nights. | Location: La Ventana, Mexico | Bedrooms: 3 | Guests: 8 | Price: From $840 USD per night | Top Amenities: Rooftop jacuzzi, Ocean views, Off‑grid energy | Best For: Kiteboarders, Wind sport groups, Divers and paddlers out of season
This is a penthouse built for wind days. Three bedrooms and two bathrooms for up to eight, running on off-grid energy, sitting above the kite beach at La Ventana with the Sea of Cortez filling the view. The rooftop jacuzzi is the recovery end of the day and the vantage point for the morning wind check, which in a kiting town is a genuinely practical feature rather than a luxury one.
La Ventana
La Ventana is a small town on the Baja side of the Sea of Cortez that exists because of thermal wind. From November to March it blows with a consistency that draws kiteboarders and windsurfers from around the world; from April to October the water goes flat and warm and the town turns into a diving and paddling place instead. La Paz, forty-five minutes north, is where you go for a restaurant with a wine list.
Inside the penthouse
Three bedrooms and two bathrooms across the top floor, with panoramic sea views from the living space. Off-grid energy means the building is not dependent on the local supply, which in a town this size is worth something. The bed-by-bed configuration is not published by the owner and we have not invented one: ask us before booking if the sleeping arrangement matters to your group. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, sleeps up to eight. Panoramic Sea of Cortez views from the living space. Off-grid energy supply. Two-night minimum stay. Bed configuration per room not published, available on request
The roof
The rooftop carries the jacuzzi and the full sweep of the sea, which is where the day ends after six hours on the water. It is also the best place in the building to read the wind before committing to a session, because you can see the whole bay rather than the strip in front of the launch. Rooftop jacuzzi with panoramic sea views. Full view over the bay for wind checks. Overlooks the La Ventana kite beach
Wind, water and desert
Wind season runs November to March and the kite schools in town rent gear and teach beginners, so you can arrive with nothing. The water is cold from December to February and a wetsuit is the difference between a session and a short one. Out of wind season the water goes flat: Espiritu Santo Island is a day trip for snorkelling with sea lions, and the Baja desert behind the town gives cardon cactus and dry arroyos to walk. Kiteboarding and windsurfing, November to March. Kite schools in town rent gear and teach beginners. Bring a wetsuit for December to February. Espiritu Santo Island day trip for sea lions and snorkelling. Flat water and diving April to October. La Paz malecon forty-five minutes north
