Luxury Villas in Kea

Discover Kea, the insider's Greek island. Luxury villas, ancient trails, pristine beaches, 90 minutes from Athens. Book with ERentals Exclusive.

The Insider's Island
Kea (also called Tzia) is the Greek island that Athenians keep to themselves. Just 90 minutes by ferry from the mainland, it has no airport, which means no charter flights, no cruise ship crowds, and no mass tourism. What it does have: ancient oak forests, stone-walled hiking trails that connect four distinct villages, pristine beaches with barely a sunbed in sight, and a local character that feels genuinely Cycladic rather than performed for tourists. Our Kea villas occupy some of the island's most dramatic positions, with Aegean views that stretch to the horizon and a silence broken only by wind and cicadas.
Starting from $2,090 per night

Why Kea

Hike ancient paths connecting villages through oak forests and stone terraces
Visit the Lion of Kea, a 6th-century BC sculpture carved into hillside rock
Swim at uncrowded beaches (Spathi, Koundouros, Gialiskari)
Dine at waterfront tavernas in Vourkari watching yachts at anchor
Day trip to the sunken city of Karthea, accessible only on foot or by boat

Where to Stay

Ioulida (Chora)
The hilltop capital, invisible from the sea by design (to hide from pirates). Narrow stone lanes, traditional tavernas, and the ancient Lion of Kea carved into rock outside town.
Korissia
The main port village. Waterfront cafes, the ferry arrival point, and a pleasant beach. The island's most practical base.
Vourkari
A picturesque harbor village between Korissia and Ioulida. Yacht moorings, art galleries, and some of the island's best waterfront dining.
Koundouros
The southwest coast. Beautiful beaches, villas with spectacular sunset views, and a more secluded feel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Kea less known than Mykonos or Santorini?
No airport means no international charter flights and no cruise ship stops. Kea's tourism is almost entirely Greek (mainly Athenians) and informed foreign travelers. This is by design and by geography.
Is Kea good for families?
Excellent. Safe, quiet, with calm beaches and outdoor activities. The lack of nightlife and tourist infrastructure is a feature for families, not a bug.
What is there to do besides beaches?
Hiking is exceptional. Ancient trails connect all four villages through varied landscapes. The Lion of Kea, the ruins of Karthea, and the island's four monasteries are worth visiting. Vourkari has art galleries.
Is there nightlife?
Minimal, and intentionally so. A few bars in Ioulida and Vourkari. Kea attracts people who prefer a sunset drink on their villa terrace to a club.
How many days do I need?
Three to four days minimum. A week allows full exploration of all beaches, hiking trails, villages, and the kind of deep relaxation that Kea specializes in.
Best Time to Visit
May through October. June and September are ideal: warm seas, thin crowds, perfect hiking weather. July and August bring Athenian weekenders (especially August) and the meltemi wind.
Getting There
Ferry from Lavrio port (southeast of Athens), approximately 90 minutes. Lavrio is 30 minutes from Athens Airport. There is no airport on Kea, which is part of its charm. Private water taxis from Athens are also available.
