Luxury Villas in Fort Lauderdale
Waterfront villas with pools in Fort Lauderdale, on the canals off the New River and the Intracoastal. Las Olas, the beach and FLL airport close by. Book direct.
Fort Lauderdale is the boating city of South Florida. A network of residential canals runs off the New River and the Intracoastal Waterway, which is why so many of the houses here sit on the water with a dock at the end of the garden rather than a view of someone else's. The city is half an hour or so north of Miami and works as its own base rather than a suburb of it: Las Olas Boulevard for dinner and the galleries, a long public beach along A1A, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) close enough that arrival day is short. For a group that wants a waterfront house, a pool and the water as part of the trip, it is the easier place to do it than Miami Beach.
Las Olas and Downtown
Las Olas Boulevard runs from downtown toward the beach, lined with restaurants, bars and galleries, with the Riverwalk along the New River beside it. It is the evening centre of the city and the easiest place to book a group dinner.
The New River Canals
The residential streets west and south of downtown are cut by canals off the New River, so the houses back onto water with their own dockage. Quiet, residential and close to everything by car or by boat.
The Beach and A1A
Fort Lauderdale Beach runs along State Road A1A with a promenade, beach bars and hotels across the road. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park sits behind it with trails and a stretch of green that most visitors miss.
The Intracoastal
The Intracoastal Waterway runs north and south between the mainland and the beach, and it is the main road for anyone on a boat. Waterfront restaurants along it take boats at their own docks.
What Fort Lauderdale Is Known For
Canal-front houses with their own docks, off the New River and the Intracoastal. Las Olas Boulevard and the Riverwalk for restaurants, bars and galleries. A long public beach along A1A, with Hugh Taylor Birch State Park behind it. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) close to most of the city. Miami about half an hour south when the group wants a night there.
Best Time to Visit Fort Lauderdale
November through April is the dry season, warm days and cooler nights, and the busiest stretch of the year, with December through March the peak. Late October brings the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, which fills the city. May through October is hot and humid with afternoon storms and is hurricane season, so rates soften and the water is at its warmest.
Getting There
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) is the closest airport for most of the city, and Miami International (MIA) is further south. A car is expected: the canals and the beach are spread out, and a driver or a boat does the rest.
Is Fort Lauderdale part of Miami?
No. It is its own city in Broward County, north of Miami-Dade. Miami is roughly half an hour to an hour south depending on traffic, so a night in Miami is easy, but the trip itself runs from Fort Lauderdale.
Do the waterfront houses have docks?
Many canal-front houses here do, and that is the reason to book one. Ask us for the dock length and depth for a specific house before planning to bring or charter a boat to it.
How far is the beach?
The canal neighbourhoods are on the mainland side, so the beach is usually a short drive east over the Intracoastal rather than a walk.
Which airport should we fly into?
Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) is the closest for most of the city. Miami International (MIA) works too and has more international routes, with a longer drive north.
