What makes the city work for Christmas and New Year specifically is that it does both halves of the holiday well. Christmas wants a house: a kitchen big enough to cook in, a table long enough to seat everyone, a pool the children never get out of, and enough bedrooms that nobody is on a sofa. New Year's Eve wants the water: the Big Orange rises at midnight at the InterContinental on Chopin Plaza, the city runs a free celebration at Bayfront Park, and the fireworks go up over Biscayne Bay.

Why Miami holds up over the festive fortnight
The practical answer is the weather. Late December is Miami's dry season, which is why the city fills with people escaping a northern winter. Everything a villa here is built around, the pool deck, the outdoor kitchen, the covered terrace, the dock, is usable all day in a way it simply is not in August. A house that reads as generous in the brochure genuinely lives that way in December.
The second answer is that Miami absorbs a large group without anyone having to compromise. Most of our houses here sleep twelve or more, and several sleep eighteen to twenty two. When three generations travel together, or four couples with children, the difference between a house that fits and a house that nearly fits is the difference between a good week and a tense one. Space is the whole product over a holiday.
The third is that the city gives you somewhere to go. Christmas can stay entirely at home, and for most groups it should. But the days on either side want variety: a morning on the water, an afternoon in Coconut Grove or the Design District, a dinner somewhere that is not the dining table again. Miami is unusual in offering a genuinely private house and a real city within twenty minutes of each other.
The honest caveat is timing. This is the most contested fortnight in the Miami calendar, and it is contested by people who book early. If the week matters to you, the conversation should start well before December rather than in it.
Choosing the house: how the Miami collection splits

Worth knowing before you book it: eight and a half bathrooms serve ten bedrooms, so some rooms share, which is usually fine for family and less fine for four unrelated couples. Villa Pesara takes eighteen guests and carries a hundred feet of deep-water dockage on the New River, with a pool and jacuzzi that face the sunrise, which is unusual for a waterfront rental and very good on a slow holiday morning.
For groups who want a bathroom each, the North Miami Beach houses are the ones to look at. Villa Ruby sleeps twenty across nine bedrooms with nine full en-suite bathrooms, no shared pairs and no half-bath substitutes, plus a covered outdoor living room rather than just loungers by the pool. Villa Jasper matches the nine en-suite count and adds a private putting green and a turf terrace, so the lounging surface does not burn underfoot. Villa Onyx puts all eight bedrooms en-suite across roughly 5,750 square feet with a gazebo and a covered terrace.
For a house that feels like an occasion in itself, Villa Crest sits on one of the rare elevations in Miami, seven bedrooms and eight bathrooms for eighteen guests, with an infinity-edge pool deck looking over the skyline and full smart-home and Lutron lighting control. Villa Savant is the other statement house: a rooftop infinity pool and a rooftop jacuzzi and bar above a second pool at bay level, a spa with both steam room and sauna, a cinema room, and eight en-suite bedrooms including one at roof level.
For families with children who need to be entertained for ten days, Villa Castro sits on more than an acre with a combined basketball and pickleball court, an arcade room and a separate game room. Villa Justina is the traditional choice, a columned classical estate for sixteen with a pool cabana, for groups who do not want a white-box modern interior. Villa Marya puts six bedrooms on a single level behind a koi pond walkway, with marble floors and Indonesian furniture, and is the right answer when stairs are a problem. And for a group who would rather be downtown than in a garden, Infinity Penthouse gives six bedrooms over two floors of a waterfront tower with a wraparound terrace, building rooftop access and the skyline filling the glass.
New Year's Eve on the water, and what a yacht actually changes
The fireworks on the thirty first go up over Biscayne Bay, and the Big Orange rises at midnight at the InterContinental on Chopin Plaza. Watching from land means committing to a spot early and leaving slowly. Watching from a chartered boat means you arrive when you like, you are sitting down, the bar is yours, and you leave when the deck empties rather than when the crowd does.
We keep eighteen crewed yachts in Miami, and every one of them is listed for up to thirteen guests, so the choice is about the character of the night rather than headcount. The 166 Trinity is the largest we charter in the city, an American-built hull with a 33-foot beam, seven en-suite cabins, a jacuzzi deck and a licensed crew of seven included in the base rate. The 125 Azimut Grande is a 2025 flagship, one of the newest superyachts in the Miami fleet, with five en-suite cabins, a real onboard gym and a fold-down beach club lounge at sea level.
For a night built around a long dinner, the 90 Pershing has three separate dining areas, three red leather sundecks and a full galley, which makes it a strong platform for a private chef. The 100 Dominator carries a main-deck jacuzzi, a full-beam flybridge and a full working galley for the same reason. One caution we give every group: New Year's Eve is the single most requested night of the year on the water in Miami, and charter terms for that night differ from an ordinary day. The pattern that works for most groups is simple. The house is the base for the full stay and carries Christmas itself. The yacht is a single booked night or day inside that stay, usually the thirty first, sometimes the thirtieth if there are children who will not last to midnight.
